Review Bytes [S01E25] : Perry Mason [S01E06]

VK

Are you all happy as I am that this part detective part legal drama got a second season? The last three episodes are really brilliant. They have made the transition from PI to lawyer smoothly while handling the death of an important character as well. As usual, they are giving the side characters good screen time and giving them so much space to shine. Each episode is really standing out because of these characters.

Mathew Rhys, you beaut, is proving time and again that he could just cakewalk any role given with such charisma. Moments like stammering in the court, drinking too much water, or trying to avoid getting water from the opposing counsel, breaking down (throughout the show), staying true to his word not only shows Rhys' acting versatility but also outlines Perry Mason's character so beautifully.

Sister Alice gets a little less screen time this episode, yet that too is made better by Tatiana Maslany. Pete is an interesting character so I hope that he continues to motivate Perry without losing his life. Juliet Rylance as Della Street is a really really good character. And showrunners are really making very good use of her. Love the banter between her and Perry. Coming to this week's hero, Paul Drake(Chris Chalk) has started to grow as a reliable and honest cop who would burst anytime soon. Scenes like the courtroom one, private visit to Mason's office, and the one with his wife are so good. Like I said above not only these characters but also the small supporting roles were did to perfection by the characters like Barnes, the Judge, Virgil, and the detectives.

Episode Rating: A
