The first season came to an end with a deliberately overlong episode and a few unsolved mysteries.
In a season that was crowded with a lot (a lot) of very good performances choosing a single performance is a crime. Yeah, that's how brilliant each performance was.
At the end of the seventh episode, the heroes knew the true antagonist yet they don't have any evidence to prove it. That set up the plot very nicely for this episode. The overlong nature of the episode helped them in a good way.
Della Street's arc was a very impressive one in Perry Mason so far. She is just killing it in every scene she is in. The banters between Perry and Della are really good. The way it ended for the character in this season is just perfect.
Perry Mason is a flawed character, and the writers did an excellent job of making the character this way. This way we get a complicated lonely frustrated man who tries to help innocent people at any cost. There are consequences for his frustrations, like Pete(Yeh he is alive) leaving him to join Burger.
The way they played completely different from every legal drama trope by bringing in the key witness, who is in hiding so far, at the eleventh hour has to be applauded. The flawed hero bribes a jury to save an innocent mother (which many Perry Mason fans may find it hard to believe). These things made it genuinely different from the other legal and investigative procedurals, which is good.
The only thing that is left hanging in this brilliant season was that Sister Alice's story had nothing much to contribute to the central plot. So because of this, we were left with an under-utilized Tatiana Maslany.
They have perfectly placed the pieces for the next season. Excited to see season two. See you all hopefully soon at the Mason and Street...
