Review Bytes[S02E11]: This is Us[S05E03]

VK

Updated: Nov 12, 2020

This is Us returns with a solid episode after the premiere which seemed like a documentary reminding the viewers of the past months in flashes.

So here in this one, we are going with the cool mom Rebecca who is not gonna meddle with her kids who are about to enter the eighth standard. This means we are dealing with the middle-aged Pearsons.

In the present, we deal with three separate problems for each Pearson. The newly (maybe) engaged Pearson is getting to know his would-be. Kevin and Madison share their secrets and guess what Kevin has been booked for another movie too. Toby and Kate meet with a single mother who might be the biological mother of their daughter. The birth mother might be rooted in pop-culture as Mr. & Mrs. Damon.

Finally coming to the portion which I liked the most, the Tess and the Randall part. Tess as a character has shown a lot of character growth in the last two seasons. Erica Baker who plays Tess has excelled by making us feel the character growth only from a handful of scenes. Randall found a new psychiatrist in James "Toofer" Spurlock, a young father. Seems like Spurlock got his wish.

The scenes in the past played a more important part in this episode than one would account for. As we got to know how each Pearson started the addiction in some sort like Kevin got his addiction to be fit, Randall to keep his secrets within him and Kate not being able to freely express her interest in others. This kind of role suit Jack at this point in time, than the one in the previous episode.

Little Things:

  • Yeah yeah, we also got to see a new Vietnamese family who might know Laurel. I am still very skeptical about the extension of Laurel's character.

Episode Rating: B+
