The final episode is here but it didn't have any surprises on the mystery part. So let us get into that review...
This episode starts exactly where we left off in the last episode. We get to see how the whole family is reacting to the primary murder weapon found in the hands of Henry. This changes the mindset of Grace added to the last week's reveal. Haley operates the jury members really well throughout the duration of the trial except for the last moments.
This episode heavily relied on two things. One is Nicole Kidman (Grace) taking the stand and the other is the promised car travel between Hugh Grant (Johnathan) and Henry. The second one didn't seem to work that much. That can be overlooked by Nicole Kidman's strategy and her performance during the trial. But the main problem here is that even this turn can be seen from a mile away.
The season review; The performances though good is really scattered. This can only allude to the fact that the story around the individual characters is far less. The time other than the individual moments were entirely spent slowly on some gruesome and non-entertaining violence (yeah I know it's HBO), and the unnecessary case leads. Donald Sutherland is definitely wasted in this role. He didn't have anything to perform, unlike others.
The storyline is wafer-thin as we discussed in the pilot episode review which makes the story uninteresting at some points too. The slow-paced episodes are not helpful in this case either. Though these facts didn't affect the individual episodes, it did affect the overall show.
So finally kinda verdict; The show is not that good but definitely not bad. This in turn may cause a fewer number of recommendations to others. This sole reason makes this show fall into the pile of shows which graced our screen in the era of Peak TV but can't stand apart.
Episode Rating: B
Season Rating: B-
Little Things:
Franklin saying "Grace I love you so much" after she takes the stand is very good
Slyvia had nothing to do in the whole series except to call Grace over the phone a couple of times
This show is one of the technically well-made shows of this year which is pertinent when a show has this kind of huge budget.
Deadline reported that the show is more popular and well-received in the UK where it is on its way to becoming the highest-rated US import show
The episodic reviews in case if you have missed any...
