The show returned yesterday after a two-month break and it had a lot (a lot) of answers with its equal share of emotional moments. Let's get into the review...
This is in a way a big three centric episode. We don't get to see either Jack or Rebecca until the end.
Kevin's issue of leaving LA for his work seems so minuscule when compared to the other two characters' issue. We follow Kate just after the big cliffhanger in the last episode. That leads Toby and her to embark on a journey to meet her ex. While this happens Randall gets a message from Hai regarding his dead mother.
Though this episode has everything working towards making it special it still slightly hollow. This may allude to the fact that none of the stories stick harder like the best This is Us episodes. Each moment passes through without making a substantial impact other than Kate to a small extent.
The above-said claim can also be because each issue takes an easier faster route without adding to the tension built. This is nothing new to the show because we have seen this time and again in the previous two seasons. Take The Last Seven Weeks as an example where each cliffhanger set up in the mid-season break was solved in the very first episode after the break.
But the issues discussed in the episode like Randall's birth mother storyline may take time to be solved completely... Let us wait for the best... But wait, the promos to the next episode shows that Laurel's family is super-rich. Oh god please don't spoil This is Us. Let us not jump to the conclusions though as the next episode may be another classical episode, which is truly the best feature of This is Us.
Episode Rating: B
Little Things:
It is still rough between the brothers as we witness in the closing moments of this episode. The conversation didn't lead anywhere to be honest as no one told what one wanted to say
This may seem dark but I think Laurel being dead makes the story easier to progress and doesn't complicate the story
I am very skeptical about Randall's super-rich ancestors' plot. As I said earlier let us hope for the best
