Review Bytes [S02E42]: Mare of Easttown [S01E01]

VK

This episode "Miss Lady Hawk Herself" introduced us to a new intriguing HBO character, Mare Sheehan. It's nothing new to say but HBO's miniseries lineup is so huge and wonderful. So does this show have the capability to be on the elite top shelf, let us see in the review...

It has been a long since a series (either new or returning) from HBO came, except for a couple of documentaries. So in general I'm very much excited for their Summer lineup and especially this one. How can we not get excited when a show has this much talent on and off camera?

These are very important questions and the pilot rewards its audience by introducing the characters and nicely setting up the plot for the rest of the series. I think more than the mystery, the show might lean on the character study aspect of the lead, which would be cool to see too. The plot deals with Mare Sheehan who is a detective who has solved most of her cases except the one which involves a missing girl. That case seems improbable to solve at this stage after a year. She also deals with some personal issues which make her lonely. A new murder and some teen drama tie-up with the story.

This has enough potential for a good show. Combining this with the great cast and crew they could make this a brilliant one. Let us wait and see...

Episode Rating: A-

Little Things:

  • The setting seems a little depressing and might be sad for some viewers. It may get uplifting at least a bit if the story moves towards finding the missing girl.
