This show is going from strength to strength in each passing episode. A lot happened in the episode and let us break down and see how the episode was...
Detective Zabel and Mare are investigating the murder of Erin. The case has started to shape in a good way for them. They now even found the place where Erin would have been potentially murdered. Parallelly the leads' backstories are further expanded. And Mare's personal life has begun to shatter further.
The chemistry between Evan Peters and Kate Winslet is very good. All their conversations reflect that especially the bar scene. The good thing the writers did is not to go into the power struggle territory. It would have not been fresh as the current one.
The line "You are deserving to be saved" holds up as promised in the trailers. Mare may be a good detective but her methods are questionable. Her impulsiveness and her detachment both were the topics that are dealt with in these three episodes. She going all the way to plant drugs on her daughter-in-law was earned as her actions till now justifies it. It makes us question the morality of her character. She is not a good person but definitely is not evil. Her character's grayness makes Mare stand out.
Both the central mystery and Mare's personal breakdown are perfectly balanced and equally perfect. The quick pace in which the show moves makes it even better. They haven't sacrificed one bit of character growth for the quickness in the narration. Direction and the editing team have to be applauded for keeping the narration neat and clean in addition to quickness all the while adding so much plot inside an hour length episode.
Episode Rating: A
Little Things:
All the characters get their importance in the story. Not only Siobhan and Helen gets their story but also one shot of Brianna shows the character's state beautifully
The mystery of DJ's blood father seems to be getting interesting as same as the central mystery
The way they are using Guy Pearce's character seems like a nice choice till now. His story would be good as long as he is not the main villain. For him to be mastermind he should at least get some screen time
The weeks ahead trailer promises us an exciting finish to this story. FIngers crossed
See you in the next week's breakdown, until then bye bye
