The new comedy show starring Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder premiered its first two episodes on HBO Max this week. And let us talk about it...
Ava whose career seems totally over after a 5 year-old tweet resurfaces. She joins Deborah Vance, a Las Vegas stand-up comedian, for writing her stand-up bits that appeal to the younger audience.
The plot is a simple but interesting one. It is made extra special by having Jean Smart play one of the leads. Without a doubt, she is so awesome in this show too. The surprise is Hannah Einbinder who landed her first major acting role, is complementing Jean Smart well, and plays the character of Ava so seamlessly. Their chemistry works really well which is the biggest advantage to the show.
I think Deborah having the upper hand over Hannah is the way to go at this point. Their egotistical clashes at this point wouldn't seem good, so holding them is a good thing for now. This makes Ava an underdog which helps the show in exploring her character well.
The show is slowly and effectively building the characters of the leads. But thus far there are no side characters who stand out other than Jimmy. This doesn't seem like a problem now, but I definitely think that having some good side characters will boost the show.

It currently has a 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and 84 on Metacritic
The show is perfectly structured to be streamed at a stretch. But we will receive only two episodes per week
