Review Bytes [S02E51]: Mare of Easttown [S01E05]

With each passing episode, we get to witness an epic show unfold before us. Brilliant. Just brilliant.

Mare goes on a date with Zabel only to be close to the case (Is it a surprise or not? tell us below in the comments). Their open conversation the next day brings them closer. The death of Betty and the other sequence of events leads Mare to accidentally stumble upon Siobhan's documentary on Kevin. Other small plots show some characters' motivations and some dark secrets.

As I said above each week we are presented with the best episode of the show. In this week's episode, we have every emotion covered from humourous banters courtesy Jean Smart's Helen, some great action-packed progress in the missing person's case, nice family drama, and cool some mysteries and secrets.

All the departments especially direction and cinematography were exceptional in the last 10 minutes. The writing too is superb throughout the show. In this episode, we receive an even further examination of each character. Zabel is perfectly covered in these four episodes so far. His motivations are clearly conveyed just as his backstory. His conversations with Mare, specifically before the ending was smartly written.

The other plots revolving around Dylan, Jess, Deacon, and the Ross family are good too. It adds a good layer to the story. It was responsible for the show to hold the tension. This combined with the quick-paced nature of the show perfectly diverts us from the case.

Episode Rating: A+

Little Things:

  • So now, we can at least be 80% sure that Zabel would not have been responsible for the death of Erin

  • Guy Pearce's character is nowhere to be seen in this episode. This might also can confirm that he might be the villain. If not why would they bring a popular actor and make him appear in only less than 10 mins in the first 5 hours of the season? Him being the suspect would also be a good twist if only they offer a good backstory and fill in the gaps properly

  • They are perfectly using the supporting character to divert us from the main case

  • Jean Smart once again is at her very best just like all the others in the cast
