The new animated Marvel show is here and it is super fun. That said let us get into the review...
MODOK, a low-ranked supervillain who aspires to bring control to the world but not to destroy it like the others. But his plans cannot be executed due to his failing marriage and his other family commitments along with his company taken over by an evil tech company.
The plot is simple but the writers have used this plot effectively. Their usage of other Marvel properties and other IPs blends well with the story. Their meta-comedy and the references to other properties are constantly bringing smiles. This has to allude to the fact that their dialogues support the story in a huge way. Their animation style perfectly suits the narration well, especially the design of MODOK.
The R rating is another big advantage. This rating is nothing new to the animated superhero shows at least in the last two years. But it is new to Marvel, as at this time it is rare to see any R-rated Marvel content. So the free-flowing dialogues and so much blood makes it unique. Comparing this show to the Harley Quinn show (one of the best shows of this genre) is inevitable. Few plots may be familiar here and there but it didn't affect me much. This show tried to make the content and its execution as fresh as possible. This show is not that great as that particular DC comic show but it's funnier in its own way.
After two rather mediocre shows from Marvel, this breathes some fresh air. WandaVision was a mid-tier Marvel content but not that good considering the standards of Peak TV nowadays. I was disappointed with Falcon and the Winter Soldier because it had so much potential (some episodes were really good like the ones which didn't involve the central plot) to be a very good show but its lack of explanation to the central storyline squandered its chances. After What If I was more excited to see MODOK at the start of this year. And this show did not disappoint me.
The voice actors have to be applauded for their wonderful work on this show.
Season Rating: B+
Little Things:
Jon Hamm as Iron Man was good. But using him as little as possible made the show shine better. Otherwise, the show would have been overshadowed by another big hero rather than this dysfunctional family
Like I said above their dialogues were super good. Including so many references in the dialogues made us constantly smile
