Since the time fans started to make their own trailers for movies/TV shows they like, this particular show's reunion might be the most made one. James Corden should have researched this and should have definitely added it to his list. With huge expectations, the show's long-awaited reunion returned as an unscripted show today on the first anniversary of the HBO Max launch. So what are your thoughts on this?
This special had a huge responsibility to fulfill the die hard fans of the show. They tried their best in that segment. They had multiple segments ranging from small table reads, a talk show, a fashion show, a few celebrities' love for the show, fans' love for their beloved show, and a trip down the cast's memory lane. I fully respect the creators' idea of not returning as a scripted show, as they had ended the character's journey at the right place at the end of its original run. So an unscripted one with these segments is a good way to proceed.
For me, though many things worked well there are few places which I wish they could have made it stronger. The plethora of guess star's for a less than a minute appearance is not one of those things which worked well. There were some huge guests but just with a single line to say, it didn't them any service. Keeping them longer would not have been a good choice too, but at least they should have been given something more than this. The show was a global phenomenon. This detail is not new to anybody certainly not to die hard fans who are all over the world. So why was there a segment where some celebrities talk about this show? If they have saved some time there we would have got more time with the main cast.
The episodes they chose to talk about are the only ones that are really popular. They just leaned into it or just prompted in that direction by others. I get it that those are really popular episodes but what about the other ones which are greater than that. Either they should have reduced talking only about the popular episodes/moments or they should have included some less popular yet good ones in that category.
The parts which fared well are when the cast talked about some random stuff like Courtney Cox writing her script on the table, fans all over the world reminiscing the show, and the conversations bouncing off the cast pretty well. The documentary with the creators and producers was neatly done. The way they wove the questions and their respective episodes throughout the whole reunion was good too. The editing team has to be appreciated for this.
Does any of this matter. We got what we waited for, a reunion show where we can see the group one more time. So let us enjoy this show.
