After a couple of solid seasons, the show comes to an end with its third and final season today. The show comes without one of its main leads, Alan Arkin. How did the show handle it and did they end the show with a bang? Let us see...
The season starts with the funeral of Norman just as indicated in the trailer. From there on the show deals with a lot of emotional moments and payoffs with a lot of heart and a good amount of laughs. Money, a lot of money is the problem in this season. Sandy gets a 10 million dollar check from Norman which he gives to her daughter on the condition that she should not mention this to her boyfriend. In addition to this, Norman also made Sandy the executor of his will as he couldn't trust his daughter or his grandson.
The show's plus points were the leads' conversations and the scenes with a lot of heart in them. I would be lying if I say that I didn't miss Norman and Sandy's conversations. But this season managed to make us not feel that while watching the show. One of the reasons is the addition of Kathleen Turner, who plays Sandy's ex-wife Roz, in the main cast. Their conversations are different and good in their own way. Their chemistry is spot on from the first scene. It goes without saying that all the actors in the show did a very good job.
The season made the show end on a high note without overstaying its welcome. The plots and sub-plots mix well with the final chapter. The emotional moments carried well throughout the season. They did a good job of making us care for Roz even though we know her only for less amount. The money problem was effectively used for both the plots. But I think Phoebe and Robby's story didn't have a satisfying end and it seems like they have left it abruptly.
The season is not without flaws. The last one-half episode seemed a little rushed. The mother character of Martin in my opinion didn't work well.
This season delivered what this show was always delivering a solid season with a lot of heart with flaws apart. And that's what I want from a comfort show.
Season Rating: A-
Little Things:
I have the following three questions,
Is Morgan Freeman starring in a Network show?
If yes for the first question, then is Margaret creating a history for winning an actor award for a network show after a little gap?
Are ratings for Emmy's wrongly reported? There seems to be a lot of people tuning in to watch the show in the show
So Sandy now has a Tony and an Emmy. Sandy please go and make a musical man and complete the remaining O and G.
