Review Bytes [S02E60]: Mare of Easttown [S01E07]

It is the series wrap on the show and it was brilliant as always. So let us get into the breakdown one last time.

The mystery was handled well throughout the episode as they did throughout this season. The personal interactions and the story as well played out nicely even for the small characters like Dylan, Jess, Deacon, Carrie, and Richard. Mare's commitment and her sheer will for her job were the main part but Mare overcoming her internal demons and her continuous hard work to make this happen was the focal point. This makes the show better.

The way they structured the whole season was very good. They hit the right notes at the right time. Till the last frame, they had a clear focus which is really great. And most importantly they held their mystery tightly till the last episode. Kate Winslet as Mare delivered one of her career-best performances. Siobhan and Helen were the close personal connection to Mare and those characters needed a good story. The writers' did a good job of making their characters excel well even without Mare being present. All the actors even for tiny teeny roles were perfectly cast.

So now the limited show category at this year's Emmy has become even more interesting with Queen's Gambit and Mare of Easttown in the lead (IMO) and the other show's like the Underground Railroad, I May Destroy thrown into the mix along with Small Axe, It's a Sin and The Good Lord Bird in contention. I want Mare of Easttown show to win, but yeah, just like last year this year too has stiff competition.

Little Things:

  • At first, I thought Guy Pearce's Richard character was not one of effectively used characters in the show. Even though his character didn't have much to showcase in these episodes too, his presence was also great
