With only six episodes to wrap up the entire story and the character arcs, what could go wrong? Everything. But Mae Martin and Joe Hampson did a wonderful job of making this not only a good season but also one of the best seasons of TV ever.
The season starts with Mae back in Canada for their rehab. George confused about her relationship with Mae starts to fall for her colleague, Elliot. Like the first season, this season too deals with various issues like Mae's insecurities, Mae's identity, and Mae & George's complicated relationship. With that, they also deal Mae's troubled childhood in-depth and most importantly George's wish to pursue her interests.
The season has a lot more laughs than the first one. Like the first season, this season too is greatly helped by its quick pace. More of Lisa Kudrow in a show is always welcome. As I said above the storyline of George pursuing her dreams to change the environment and make it more habitable to bees is superb. George's character was given separately important storyline. The way they handled the stories of the leads and interconnecting them was really good. The main plot and sub-plots perfectly sync with the issues they deal with.
All the solutions to a problem can't just be right or wrong, every problem has a grey area. This was the mainstay in the first season too, which is more useful here too. Like the thrilling half an hour of TV in the fourth episode. That episode is the pinnacle of the show. It just revolves around decisions Mae has to take in terms of her professional career. It was done in the most thrilling way possible. The show perfectly treated that any decision that Mae take couldn't be just classified as right and wrong. This kind of episode makes the era of peak TV.
The season is not without its share of flaws. They had to rush through things like George's childhood friends arc and such. Some characters could have been flushed out better if they had time. These flaws don't matter much in the whole picture as the writers perfectly set the show till the finale and finish the journey brilliantly.
Season Rating: A+
