The second season came to a surprising end this week, so yeah let us get into the review...
This season focuses on the supporting characters, which expanded the show and helped in giving the characters a good story arc. Rachel and Dana's arc of finding their passion, CW's "Backstory", Brad and Jo's relationship all were handled really well. This meant slightly less screen time for the leads who fight against each other for their vision to be the next expansion. This didn't become a problem in the larger sense as, in the end, the A-plot dealing with expansion came to a good and surprising end.
There are three major highlights in this season. First off the wonderful directorial debut of Megan Ganz. That bottle episode was a very good one. Secondly, spending time on CW's backstory and his relationship with the tripod. Dedicating two consecutive episodes on a yet to be fully developed character, made a huge difference. CW went from being a less likable character to a likable one in the span of two episodes. And thirdly, as I said in the mid-season review the pairing of Jo and Brad yielded so many good laughs.
Even though the ending for the expansion turned out to be good, I wish we could have spent a little more time with Poppy and Ian. This is my only big concern for the second season of this workplace comedy. I am not sure of how the testing/testers work in the gaming department. But showing it as a worse job, I am not fully convinced of that.
The show shows a clear improvement over the first outing with being consistent throughout the season.
Season Rating: A-
Little Things:
Zack even though not being the main villain of this season provided some good plots for Jo and Brad
This season wove the gender representation more organically into the show as well
Really excited to see how the future seasons shape up from here. Hoping to see the renewal news from AppleTV+ soon. This is very unlike them, they have so far handed a new season renewal for every other show even before the current one starts airing. So fingers crossed
Also hoping to see a special episode as the tenth one this season
