Review Bytes [S02E66]: Monsters at Work

I love both Monsters films especially Monsters Inc. which is my favorite Pixar movie. So I was really excited when Disney announced the sequel to the much-beloved 2001 film. Let us get into the breakdown to find out if the show is up to the mark till now...

We are introduced to the new set of heroes, the MIFTers. They are responsible for the day-to-day mechanics of the Monsters Inc. They welcome their reluctant new hire, Tylor (Ben Feldman). Tylor's ambition of becoming a scare monster is flushed down due to the recent change in the company. The story then follows Tylor and other MIFTers in their daily activities and the former's attempt to become a jokester.

This premise is a gold mine for Pixar. But I feel that somewhere the show is lacking its usual Pixar magic which prevents it from becoming their funniest self. This might be due to the fact that the show lacks a season-long storyline other than the jokester plot. This reduces the urgency in the plot, which reduces the areas to generate comedy in this setup.

Not all is doom and gloom for the show, as it had its moments throughout its run. The voice cast is so brilliant. In addition to that the first and the fifth episodes of the season stands out from the rest of the group.

There is a lot of potential for the show to become a part of the elite animation content.
